Liberty and Tyranny: A Conservative Manifesto Overview

When nationally syndicated radio host Mark R. Levin’s Liberty and Tyranny appeared in the early months of the Obama presidency, Americans responded by making his clarion call for a new era in conservatism a #1 New York Times bestseller for an astounding twelve weeks. As provocative, well-reasoned, robust, and informed as his on-air commentary, with his love of our country and the legacy of our Founding Fathers reflected on every page, Levin’s galvanizing narrative provides a philosophical, historical, and practical framework for revitalizing the conservative vision and ensuring the preservation of American society.

In the face of the modern liberal assault on Constitution-based values, an attack that has resulted in a federal government that is a massive, unaccountable conglomerate, the time for reinforcing the intellectual and practical case for conservatism is now. In a series of powerful essays, Levin lays out how conservatives can counter the tyrannical liberal corrosion that has filtered into every timely issue affecting our daily lives, from the economy to health care, global warming to immigration, and more.

"I Hope He Fails" Review

"I Hope He Fails" Overview

Although a truly pivotal moment in America's democracy, the election of Barack Obama as the first African American President of the United States of America has served as a catharsis for the resurgence of hate groups in the United States. These hate groups are fueled by the rightwing media. Daily, far-right radio and TV talk show hosts can be heard and seen spewing out their poisonous venom against the President. From Rush Limbaugh stating he hopes the President fails, to Glenn Beck calling the President a racist, these self-proclaim "defenders of American values" and "great Americans" take pride in fanning the racial fires in the country and they are getting filthy rich in the process! The author gives a somber and revealing look at how the rightwing media have join forces, and established a Legion, in their attempt to destroy the Presidency of Barack Obama.

Persecution: How Liberals Are Waging War Against Christianity Review

Persecution: How Liberals Are Waging War Against Christianity Overview

In this New York Times bestseller, David Limbaugh exposes the liberal hypocrisy of promoting political correctness while discriminating against Christianity. From the elimination of school prayer to the eradication of the story of Christianity in America from history text-books, this persuasive book shows that our social engineers inculcate hostility toward Christianity and its values in the name of "diversity," "tolerance," and "multiculturalism."

Limbaugh explains through court cases, case studies, and true stories the widespread assault on the religious liberties of Christians in America today and urges Christians to fight back to restore their First Amendment right of religious freedom.

What Liberal Media?: The Truth about Bias and the News Overview

"Bold, counterintuitive, and cathartic.... Alterman is ready for a bar fight, and he comes out swinging." New York Times Book Review

Widely acclaimed and hotly contested, veteran journalist Eric Alterman's ambitious investigation into the true nature of the U.S. news media touched a nerve and sparked debate across the country. As the question of whose interests the media protects-and how-continues to raise hackles, Alterman's sharp, utterly convincing assessment cuts through the cloud of inflammatory rhetoric, settling the question of liberal bias in the news once and for all. Eye-opening, witty, and thoroughly and solidly researched, What Liberal Media? is required reading for media watchers, and anyone concerned about the potentially dangerous consequences for the future of democracy in America.

What Liberal Media?: The Truth about Bias and the News Specifications

The incredulity begins with the title What Liberal Media?, journalist Eric Alterman's refutation of widely flung charges of left-wing bias, and never lets up. The book is unlikely to make many friends among conservative media talking heads. Alterman picks apart charges made by Ann Coulter, Rush Limbaugh, George Will, Sean Hannity, and others (even the subtitle refers to a popular book by former CBS producer Bernard Goldberg that argues a lefty slant in news coverage). But the perspectives of less-incendiary figures, including David Broder and Howard Kurtz, are also dissected in Alterman's quest to prove that not only do the media lack a liberal slant but that quite the opposite is true. Much of Alterman's argument comes down to this: the conservatives in the newspapers, television, talk radio, and the Republican party are lying about liberal bias and repeating the same lies long enough that they've taken on a patina of truth. Further, the perception of such a bias has cowed many media outlets into presenting more conservative opinions to counterbalance a bias, which does not, in fact, exist, says Alterman. In methodically shooting down conservative charges, Alterman employs extensive endnotes, all of which are referenced with superscript numbers throughout the body of the book. Those little numbers seem to say, "Look, I've done my homework." What Liberal Media? is a book very much of 2003 and will likely lose some relevance as political powers and media arrangements evolve. But it's likely to be a tonic for anyone who has suspected that in a media environment overflowing with conservatives, the charges of bias are hard to swallow. For liberals hoping someone will take off the gloves and mix it up with the verbal brawlers of the right, Eric Alterman is a champion. --John Moe

THE SECOND DECADE

THE SECOND DECADE Review

THE SECOND DECADE Overview

The Second Decade is a provocative novel about the future of, and the landmark transformation of America. The importance of events can best be judged through the prism of retrospection. Thus, at a time when unprecedented societal change is still unfolding, it is tempting to overstate the significance of the past decade. Author Judge David D. Minier has done his best to present the historical record of 2010-2020 with objectivity, but he believes future historians will agree it was the most transforming and enlightening decade since the American Revolution.

I Don't Have Enough Faith to Be an Atheist Overview

All worldviews, including atheism, require faith. I Don’t Have Enough Faith to Be an Atheist argues that Christianity requires the least faith of all because it is the most reasonable. The authors lay out the evidence for truth, God, and the Bible in logical order and in a readable, non-technical, engaging style. A valuable aid to those interested in examining the reasonableness of the Christian faith, Geisler and Turek provide a firm challenge to the previous beliefs of doubters of all sorts.

Misstating the State of the Union: Right-Wing Media Distortions About the Clinton and Bush Presidencies Review

Misstating the State of the Union: Right-Wing Media Distortions About the Clinton and Bush Presidencies Overview

Misstating the State of the Union reveals a simple truth that the media too often obscures: By every objective measure, the Clinton presidency was immeasurably better for America than the Bush presidency. Yet an army of conservative pundits have conspired to lie to the public about both the Clinton and Bush records, denying the proven success of progressive policies and leadership while shamelessly covering up abject conservative failures. This book dissects the conservative misinformation campaign to distort and discredit the progressive agenda point by point, while unmasking the dark ideological agenda and rank dishonesty behind all the cable TV and radio hot air.

From Rush Limbaugh's claim that the federal government spends three times as much on education as defense (the truth: the government spends five times as much on defense as on education) to Sean Hannity's dismissal of air-quality concerns ("This is silly") to Ann Coulter's attacks on the elderly ("39 million greedy geezers collecting Social Security"), Misstating the State of the Union concisely refutes many of the most dangerous right-wing lies in circulation in this political year, using sound logic, incontrovertible fact, and illustrative charts and graphs.

Misstating the State of the Union is the first book produced by Media Matters Action Network, the advocacy organization associated with Media Matters for America, a new not-for-profit web-based research and information center in Washington, D.C. that monitors, analyzes, and corrects conservative misinformation in the U.S. media. In just a few short months, Media Matters for America, founded by David Brock, author of Blinded by the Right: The Conscience of an Ex-Conservative and The Republican Noise Machine : Right-Wing Media and How It Corrupts Democracy, has established itself as a key resource on conservative misinformation for both producers and consumers of news.
